Elope to St. John, USVI

Now, I may be biased since I have been living in the US Virgin Islands for 20+ years, but I think there is truth to what I will share with you.

St. John, US Virgin Islands is a remote island belonging to the United States, yet it feels like you are traveling to another country. Heck, it is the Caribbean after all! I remember when my family first moved here. I was a teenager in high school when we moved to St. Thomas, before settling in St. John. There is nothing quite like islands, wherever you are in the world.

What makes St. John US Virgin Islands unique is that it is 3/4 National Park and you arrive by a ferry boat (no airplanes), the same ferry boat (with lots of upgrades!) I used to take to high school in St. Thomas every morning!

In St. John, you won’t be overcrowded by people, cars and traffic. You will have the beach practically all to yourself on your elopement day. Life will be slow and easy. The drinks are delicious, the food is killer, the culture is friendly, don’t forget to say “Good morning” and “Good afternoon”, and the parties are late. Overall life is easy and breezy, take it slow!

St. John offers a variety of locations for your elopement options: the beaches, beautiful vacation villas, ruins and churches. Most people choose to get married barefoot on the beach here, but if you want something a little more refined (with heels!), you can opt to get married at a vacation villa overlooking the Caribbean Sea.

The island is no stranger to weddings. In fact, I’d say it’s in the business of weddings here, just like the restaurants, nightlife and watersports.

It’s quite easy to create an elegant, sophisticated wedding on a small remote island, with a little planning and design direction. Find a simple, timeless gown that you can wear in a warm, humid climate; find the right island fancy outfit for your groom, beautiful florals and table setting details and you are half way there.

The island is known for music. Virgin Islanders are incredibly talented musicians and music is in the blood here. You will have no shortage of finding a musician for your special day. Between the food, drinks, florals, background views and music, you really can’t go wrong coming to the islands to elope.

Surrounding St. John, US Virgin Islands are many smaller islands, including the British Virgin Islands. Sailing, snorkeling, diving, surfing and other water sports activities are all options during your stay in St. John. For ultimate privacy, renting a honeymoon vacation villa is both romantic and private. Imagine waking up next to your new husband overlooking the Caribbean Sea?

I offer wedding and elopement photography services in St. John, US Virgin Islands, the surrounding islands and destinations worldwide. Send me a message to learn more!
